The measures we have put in place have been taken from Government guidelines. Our system of controls include cleaning hands more thoroughly and more often, good respiratory hygiene by promoting the "catch it, bin it, kill it" approach with the children, enhanced cleaning including disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and toys, wearing appropriate PPE should a suspected case of Covid-19 arise and minimising contact with individuals showing signs of Covid-19 and ensuring they do not attending the setting. 2m social distancing signage is in place for adults at drop-off and pick-up. A daily routine gives children a sense of security. This is why we ensure each day is properly structured while leaving enough time for spontaneous activities.
Children arrive and go into the book corner for registration with members of staff. We will then discuss together what we are going to do that day.
During this time we engage with the children on topics such as counting and letter/sound recognition through the use of individual name cards and our number line. Children can share news in further detail at "show and tell".
The children can then chose to join a wide variety of activities. There is a balance between child led and adult initiated activities. These activities are overseen by experienced staff who know when to stand back and when to join in.
We have access from the hall to a secure outdoor play area comprising a safety paved area, grassed and digging area and an all-weather canopy for free-flow access to the outdoors. The children can enjoy a variety of activities to develop all areas of learning.
We offer the children healthy drinks and snacks: milk or water to drink, toast, cereal, fruit and vegetables, in addition to different snacks from around the world and those linking up to celebrations and events such as Pancake Day, Chinese New Year etc.
Towards the end of the session we have tidy up time where we encourage children to take responsibility for their own play resources.
This is followed by music and story time; giving the children a chance to reflect on the day's activities.
